Environmental Standards

Harbormasters International approaches each project with the vision and ability to develop marina projects that not only qualify for “Clean Marina Status” but set new environmental standards for waterfront construction. Here are some of the ways in which we promote our principles:

Local Manufacturing

Thanks to our capability of exporting the technology rather than the product, Harbormasters can set up on-site manufacturing, which not only stimulates local economies but also greatly reduces the carbon footprint created by diesel trucks and the transport of finished goods. By avoiding hundreds of cross-country or even international freight loads, Harbormasters offers an environmentally conscience possibility instead.

Sustainable Materials

Structurally, the Harbormaster Concrete Pontoons Series does not contain a single fiber of chemically treated wood. Side fenders are available as a recycled plastic, simulated to look like wood. A 100% wood-free dock means there is no leaching of toxic chemicals into the water.

Additionally, Harbormasters offers a wide variety of Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic and composite decking options. And only sustainably harvested wood is utilized when site conditions require an engineered timber marina system.

Encapsulated Flotation

The bottoms of the pontoons are sealed with a coating to prevent any loose foam from entering the marine environment and to protect the marine organisms from ingesting the foam.

Marine Habitat

Harbormasters’ dock systems promote marine growth, which is beneficial to the environment and creates an eco- friendly habitat, which fish feed upon.

Long Service Life

Harbormasters’ concrete marina systems have a service life of 50 years. This is twice the life of a conventional dock. This means no toxically treated wood products enter the local landfill in 10 years, as is the case with conventional wood floating dock design.

Underwater Anchoring

By utilizing the HarborFlex Elastic Anchoring System instead of a traditional chain-and-block anchoring system, which is destructive to the seabed and can kill marine life, Harbormasters offers a low-impact alternative for pile-free, underwater anchoring.
